# SUDX Brand Law

## Canonical X

Two shipping routes cross. The Ink route passes over the Clay route, which
breaks where they meet. Use the exact published SVG geometry; never trace,
typeset, or redraw the X.

Settled 14 October 2026 by Nico. Rejected: the four-wedge quadrant X, which read
as aggressive and top-heavy, and the Converge, Soft wedge, Crossing, Tile, and
Radar studies.

## Lockups

- Compact: mark alone.
- Formal: mark, hairline divider, SUDX wordmark.
- Metadata may sit beneath the formal lockup in the interface; it is not baked
  into the vector asset.

The wordmark exists in two forms, and they must agree. In the interface the
letters are typeset in `--sudx-font-wordmark` beside the mark, which stands as
the fourth letter. In `sudx-wordmark.svg` and the formal lockup the same
letters are drawn as stroked paths so the asset needs no font. In both forms
the X stands at the height of the letters. A malformed
letter in the drawn form is therefore invisible on every page and visible only
to whoever downloads the asset: check the distributed files by rendering them,
never by reading the page.

## Clearspace

Keep 1X minimum clearspace on every side. `1X` is the width of one route.
Measure from the outermost visible geometry.

## Minimum sizes

- 64px: desktop navigation lockup.
- 40px: mobile navigation lockup.
- 24px: smallest full lockup.
- 16px: mark-only favicon.

Below 24px, use the compact mark without the formal wordmark.

## Color and application

On light surfaces the Ink route crosses over the Clay route. On dark surfaces
the Ink route takes the dark text colour and the Clay route dark Clay. Where a
platform allows one colour, draw both routes in it; the break still shows which
passes over. Keep the canvas transparent unless a platform icon requires an
opaque tile. The same geometry governs favicon,
install icon, avatar, header, radar center, and release specimens.

## Document grammar

Corner registration ticks, numbered figures, coordinates, versions, and source
labels express orientation or provenance. Use them selectively in the landing
hero, Design Portal, release pages, and identity specimens.

## History

The four-wedge quadrant X, the legacy Ink/Bone/Brass palette, the smaller
8-unit center, and the Vector, Routed, Blade, Aperture, Chevron, Slash, and Port
studies belong only in the Design Portal Identity History Lab. They are not Stable assets.
